A NEW SAGA BEGINS FOR MALAYSIA'S PROTON WITH THE PEOPLE’S CAR
PROTON begins a new saga in the New Year with its second new model introduced in less than six months, codenamed BLM, that is set to be a hit and favourable amongst Malaysians.
Bookings are now available for this new sedan at all PROTON showrooms and authorised dealers nationwide, beginning from the first day of the New Year.
The model launched today by Malaysia Prime Minister will become the sixth vehicle fully developed and built ground-up by PROTON after the introduction of the Waja in 2000, the Gen.2 in 2004, the Savvy in 2005, the Satria Neo in 2006 and the Persona in 2007.
PROTON Holdings Berhad Managing Director, Dato' Haji Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir, said PROTON considered it apt to make it a truly Malaysian celebration of the New Year by opening for booking a car built for the people.
"We are confident that the BLM will be the ideal New Year's gift to the nation. The model combines simple, contemporary design with dynamic driving performance, practical features, affordable price and economical ownership costs, which we strongly believe will be the right car for the right market, at the right price and time," said Syed Zainal.
Syed Zainal expressed confidence that just like the Persona that was launched in August 2007 by His Excellency Yang di-Pertuan Agong, this new car will attract many interests that will subsequently be translated into bookings even before it was unveiled at its official launch.
Chalking up 5,000 bookings before its launch, the new sedan is expected to be a strong competitor to other models in its class.
The 1.3-litre BLM will be priced at a range between RM30,000 and RM40,000, where the variants are available in seven colours namely Zircon Green, Metallic Black, Solid White, Mountain Blue, Genetic Silver, Chilli Red and Granite Gray.
"We are very excited. Just like the very first car that rolled out from the PROTON factory in 1985, this will mark a very momentous occasion for PROTON. We hope that this will be the beginning of a new saga, with the car being another source of national pride and an icon that every Malaysian will be proud to own or be in one," he said.
