Kuala Lumpur, 9th January – Asia’s leading integrated resort and Malaysia’s own Resorts World Bhd and Star Cruises were honoured yesterday, 8th January 2007, as the The Best Brands In Leisure And Hospitality by The BrandLaureate Awards, Asia Pacific’s most coveted branding award.

Minister of the Minister’s Department, YBhg Datuk Nazri Tun Razak and Dato Syed Amin Aljeffri, President of the Asean Business Advisory Council Malaysia attended the event, which was held at Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur.

Captains of the industries representing their brands and well-known brand personalities were present at the black-tie reception to witness the crowning of 2006-07 Brand Laureates. Resorts World Bhd was led by its President/COO, Mr Lee Choong Yan and for Star Cruises was Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Miss Jean Teo.

The BrandLaureate Awards was launched by Asia Pacific Brands Foundations (APBF) in May 2006 to recognise outstanding organisations and brands.

As one of the world’s leading leisure and hospitality corporations with strong financials and management expertise in developing and managing integrated entertainment resorts, Resorts World Bhd has been an active player in encouraging the growth of tourism in Malaysia.

In conjunction with the Visit Malaysia Year 2007, the resorts had announced that it would be organising 50 events and attractions at the resort to encourage more tourists to the country.

Concerts from leading performers such as Boyz II Men, Sir Cliff Richard, Jenny Tseng and Jack Neo have been lined up for the first quarter of the year. Plus, major events such as Genting International Jazz Festival, 50th Nationhood World Lion Dance, Michelin Star Chefs and much more is set to entertain the crowd at the “City Of Entertainment”.

Recently, one of the Genting – City of Entertainment's properties, First World Hotel, which consists of 6,118 rooms was recognised as “the world’s largest” under the Feats of Engineering for Big Buildings and received the highest recognition by Guinness World Records. Besides the recognition from Guinness World Records, First World Hotel was also awarded the certificate of being “the world’s largest hotel” by Ripley’s Believe It Or Not in 2006.

Apart from Genting – City Entertainment, Resorts World also owns and operates the Awana Hotel chain, which comprise three beautifully designed hotels in Malaysia – Awana Genting Highlands Golf & Country Resort, Awana Kijal Golf, Beach & Spa Resort in Terengganu and Awana Porto Malai in Langkawi, Kedah.
